Bank screenshots in WhatsApp are not a fee system. Names do not match. Balances stay fuzzy. Someone always “sent it last week.”
UK clubs still need bank transfer for plenty of players. But when the squad wants to tap and pay, the club should not invent a second process — or surprise people with a higher total at checkout.
The provoke: a surcharge kills trust
If a season fee is £120 and the player suddenly sees £124.80, they do not feel helped. They feel taxed for paying digitally. Volunteer treasurers then spend the week explaining Stripe, not coaching.
Run5’s model is simple: the player pays the fee you set. Card and Apple Pay (when enabled) settle that advertised amount. Run5 deducts a platform fee of 2.4% + 20p per digital payment (capped at £3.00) from the club’s Stripe payout. Bank transfers you arrange do not include that fee.
What to teach: set it once, chase less
- Set season fees (and extra requests for kit or trips) next to the roster
- Offer bank details with unique references and card / Apple Pay when the club is ready
- Players claim bank payments for coach confirm, or pay digitally in one flow
- Fee push reminders nudge unpaid balances without a public shaming thread
- Club Finance (Pro) keeps the wider ledger next to the same team
Also free when Stripe is Active: Tap to Pay on iPhone. Take card, Apple Pay or Google Pay at the door on your iPhone, with no card reader (set up Stripe Connect in Payment settings, then enable Tap to Pay). Clubs that only need door payments can use Collect mode. Read Tap to Pay and Collect mode.
How Run5 solves it: fees live with the people who owe them. Digital payments are processed by Stripe; Run5 never stores full card numbers. Full fee wording: Terms · Pricing. Older fee ops read: Season fees without the chase.
