What BUCS basketball affiliation really requires

BUCS basketball sits on NGB affiliation and licensing. Here is what that means for captains and coaches, and how Run5 supports the day to day.

BUCS basketball is not a free floating university league. Sport specific regulations say competitions are conducted under BUCS rules and the FIBA Official Basketball Rules as interpreted by the relevant National Governing Body. Institutions and playing entities must also affiliate to their NGB as set out in the BUCS Sport Specific Affiliations Document.

In England that means Basketball England affiliation via PlayHQ is part of the operating path, not optional paperwork. Miss affiliation deadlines and sanctions can follow. For coaches and captains, the practical question is simpler: is everyone who will tip off actually registered, licensed and findable before tip?

Primary sources: BUCS Basketball regulations and the BUCS Sport Specific Affiliations Document (Appendix 18).

What usually breaks

How Run5 helps: keep the living roster, events and licence fields in one team space while PlayHQ remains the NGB register. Affiliation stays official. Matchday readiness stays operational.
