Keeping basketball volunteers so they do not burn out

Clubs survive on volunteers. Overloading one coach with chat, fees and scoresheets is how good people leave.

Basketball England’s volunteer guidance is clear: people should ask for roles that fit their time, share duties, seek mentoring, and speak up before burnout becomes exit. Clubs that treat one coach as unpaid general manager lose experience every season.

Admin load is a retention issue. If RSVPs, fee chasing and scoring live in one personal phone, the club is fragile.

How Run5 helps: move events, fees, chat and scoring into a shared team system so volunteering can mean coaching again.
